PM Imran Khan Praises Iran’s Supreme Leader, Turkish President for Criticizing Massacre of Muslims in India

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday thanked Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for speaking up against the “oppression and massacre” of Muslims in India and residents of Indian-occupied Kashmir.

“I want to thank Supreme Leader Khamenei, & President Erdogan, for speaking against the oppression & massacre of Muslims in India & Kashmiris in IOJK by the Hindu Supremacist Modi regime,” the premier wrote on his official Twitter handle on Thursday.

“Sadly, few voices from the Muslim World are speaking out & condemning this; & more voices are being raised within the West condemning the Hindu Supremacist Modi regime’s massacre of Muslims in India & Kashmiris in IOJK,” he wrote.

PM Imran was responding to the tweet of Iran’s supreme leader’s during which he urged India to “confront extremist Hindus” and “stop the massacre of Muslims.”

At least 44 people were killed and hundreds injured within the worst communal riots within the New Delhi in decades, triggered by clashes between supporters of a replacement citizenship law and other people against it.

“The hearts of Muslims everywhere the world are grieving over the massacre of Muslims in India,” Khamenei said during a tweet in English, just days after New Delhi rebuked Iran’s secretary of state for commenting on an identical issue.

“The government of India should confront extremist Hindus & their parties & stop the massacre of Muslims to stop India’s isolation from the world of Islam,” he added.

“India immediately has become a rustic where massacres are widespread. What massacres? Massacres of Muslims? By who? Hindus,” Erdogan said during a speech in Ankara last month.

The Citizenship Amendment Act provides non-Muslims from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan a fast track to Indian citizenship. Prime Minister Modi’s Hindu nationalist government says this is often required to help minorities from those mainly Muslim countries. Critics argue the law discriminates against Muslims and violates the spirit of India’s secular constitution. Many thousands of people have taken part in protests since December.
